Funding opportunities

Below are some funding programs worth considering for prospective lab members joining the group at the Weizmann Institute. This list isn’t exhaustive – get in touch and we can figure out what fits best.

For PhD students

• Feinberg Graduate School (FGS) fellowships – All PhD students admitted to the Weizmann Institute receive a monthly fellowship and full tuition waiver for the duration of their studies; no separate application is needed (interrnational candidates are welcome!).
• Azrieli Graduate Studies Fellowship – Awarded to outstanding research students in Israel, on top of the standard FGS fellowship.
• VATAT (Council for Higher Education) excellence scholarships – Several tracks for outstanding PhD students, including programs for women in hi-tech fields and students from the periphery.

For postdoctoral researchers

• Weizmann Institute postdoctoral fellowships – A range of institutional fellowships for incoming postdocs (e.g., Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship, Zuckerman STEM Leadership Program, Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship, Dean of Faculty Fellowship, and several country-specific programs).
• Sustainability and Energy Research Initiative (SAERI/IES) postdoctoral fellowship – A two-year fellowship for outstanding postdocs from abroad joining a Weizmann group working on sustainability-related research, directly relevant to our work on methane and greenhouse gas-emitting microbes.
• Max Planck-Weizmann Postdoctoral Programme – A prestigious four-year appointment jointly offered by the Max Planck Society and the Weizmann Institute, with time split between a Max Planck Institute and WIS (recommended minimum of one year at each). Requires a joint host at a participating Max Planck Institute.
• EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowships – For early-career life scientists moving internationally within two years of their PhD.
• HFSP Postdoctoral Fellowships – For frontier, interdisciplinary life-science research, including cross-disciplinary fellowships for applicants moving into biology from physics, chemistry, or other quantitative fields.
• Minerva Fellowship Programme – Supports research stays in Israel for postdoctoral scientists from Germany.
• Council for Higher Education (VATAT) Excellence Fellowship for International Postdoctoral Researchers – A national program supporting outstanding international postdocs at Israeli universities and research institutes.
